The Racquet Club is a unique athletic and social club in the heart of Philadelphia that makes old-world pleasures new. Hailed by squash enthusiasts as the preeminent squash club of Philadelphia, the club also offers relaxed dining, a lively social calendar, active affinity clubs, guest rooms, an indoor pool, and more. The club is home to several celebrated squash legends that have played on the professional circuit and many of the club’s members consider the club to be their home away from home. The club is home to one of only 11 court tennis courts in the country, and was recently renovated. Dating back to the 12th Century, the game of Court Tennis was widely recognized as “sport of kings” thanks in part to Henry VIII’s fondness of the game. Not to be confused with lawn tennis, court tennis spawned the game played at Wimbledon. The Club’s Athletic Director, Rob Whitehouse, is a United States Court Tennis Hall of Famer and is eager to teach new members the ins and outs of the game.

Home to one of only seven racquets courts in the country, members at the club have an unrivaled passion for this unique game. Originating in English prisons and initially played with rocks, racquets has developed into the fastest racquet sport in the world. During events and tournaments, you will find a raucous Racquet Club crowd cheering on the brave players who dare to engage in the sport.

The club offers junior programs to educate children on the sport of squash. This growing program provides children with guidance and discipline to develop their athletic skills and encourages socialization with other children in their age group.

The club has 13 elegantly appointed guest rooms that are exclusively designed to complement the beautifully unique architecture of this renowned and historic club. There are five suites that all include complimentary Black Box wine for the first night of the reservation. Additionally, overnight guests have access to the club’s fitness center, sauna and steam rooms, and complimentary “Grab-and-Go” breakfast. Members are welcome to sponsors guests to stay at the Club.

The club has a newly renovated 24/7 fitness center that is included with the cost of dues. Additionally, members have access to complimentary classes such as Pilates, Stretch and Sculpt, High Intensity Interval Training, and Bootcamp throughout the week during the afternoons and evenings. The Racquet Club has several meeting spaces that can accommodate intimate meetings or large events that cater up to 300 guests. Additionally, our Executive Chef and service staff is capable of customizing each occasion based on the personal preferences of our members and guests.

The Racquet Club is renowned for hosting some of best tournaments and events in the country. Such tournaments include The Jimmy Dunn Tournament, The Tompkins Cup, The Doubles Squash Member/Guest & Lord Percival Cup, and the famous Pub Club Championships. The Court Tennis United States Open is also held at the club every 4 years (2009, 2013, 2017). In addition to events centered around athletic competition, the Club hosts a variety of social events throughout the year which include: Prospective Member Nights and Exhibition Matches, The Games Dinner, Halloween Party, The Annual Tree Trimming, New Year’s Eve Celebration, Summer Happy Hours, and a variety of other events which include member outings.

Affinity clubs are groups within the Club that share a common interest. Affiliation with these groups is open to all members and their spouses. Such affinity clubs include the Wine Club, Bridge Club, Sailing Association, Backgammon Club, Outdoor Club, and the Community Service Club. Members are encouraged to participate in these groups to socialize and network with their peers.
